Wedding decor and styling — Wedding planner

Share references and identify the spaces you want styled, then clarify whether you need a design plan or a supplier who also sources and installs items. Ask who owns hired objects, handles returns and approves venue attachments. Include a plan for removing decor after the celebration.

Service scope

Wedding decor and styling develops and coordinates the visual arrangement of the event, such as tables, signs, decorative objects and colour themes. Design, hire, purchasing, installation and removal are different deliverables; structural supports, electrics, fire-sensitive effects and specialist floristry require competent, separately defined provision.

What is normally included

  • Visual concept and reference development
  • Decor item and layout planning
  • Coordination of agreed decorative suppliers
  • Setup and removal where commissioned

What is not included

  • Unqualified rigging or electrical work
  • Automatic floristry production
  • Permission to attach decor to venue structures

Typical tasks

  • Develop the visual styling brief
  • Plan decor quantities and placement
  • Coordinate hire or purchase schedules
  • Arrange permitted setup
  • Manage agreed removal and item returns

What to include in your brief

  • Style references and colour preferences
  • Rooms and tables to decorate
  • Available venue inventory
  • Hire versus purchase preference
  • Setup, removal and budget constraints

Choosing the right professional

Compare a written item and responsibility schedule, not just a mood board. Ask which pieces are supplied, substituted or hired and how venue restrictions are checked. Specialist suspended, powered or flame-related elements should not be approved solely by a stylist's aesthetic judgement.

Important considerations

  • Decorative items can obstruct access or exits
  • Venue attachment restrictions may prevent a proposed layout
  • Hired items can create return or damage responsibilities
