Event lighting and sound for DJ performances — DJ
Explain what people need to hear and see, the areas involved and whether the event is inside or outside. A microphone for speeches and sound for dancing serve different needs. Describe desired effects without assuming that a pictured stage layout can be installed safely at your venue.
Service scope
This DJ-branch service supplies or operates lighting and sound for the performance area. The brief should distinguish playback amplification, speech coverage, decorative light and show effects; larger production, rigging and temporary power design are specialist interfaces rather than automatic extras.
What is normally included
- Audience-area and programme requirements review
- Specification of an agreed sound package
- Lighting coverage for the performance area
- Technical operation where commissioned
What is not included
- Automatic whole-venue production
- Unspecified pyrotechnic or hazardous effects
- Structural or electrical design by unqualified personnel
Typical tasks
- Review the space and intended programme
- Specify sound coverage for the agreed areas
- Plan suitable lighting positions
- Coordinate power and support requirements
- Operate or hand over the agreed system
What to include in your brief
- Venue plan and audience areas
- Speech and music requirements
- Desired lighting style
- Indoor or outdoor exposure
- Operator hours and access arrangements
Choosing the right professional
Ask how the supplier will assess the site, coordinate with venue technicians and manage changes during the event. Compare coverage and support, not simply speaker counts, and have any suspended equipment or specialist effects reviewed by competent providers.
Important considerations
- Excessive sound can affect hearing and neighbours
- Support and power assumptions can make a design unsafe
- Decorative effects may conflict with venue restrictions
