Photography services — Professionals
Photographers should establish subject, intended use and delivery requirements before choosing a capture approach. Clarify preparation and access responsibilities, the client's approval process and any sensitive subjects. The booking is not fully scoped by a camera-hours estimate alone.
Service scope
A photography commission creates still images for a stated personal, editorial or commercial purpose. Its scope combines preparation, image capture, selection, editing and delivery; intended use, subject access and the distinction between finished images and working files should be agreed before the shoot.
What is normally included
- Photographic brief and shot planning
- Still-image capture
- Selection and agreed editing
- Delivery in specified image formats
What is not included
- Automatic delivery of every raw file
- Unrestricted copyright transfer
- Video production unless separately commissioned
Qualification checks
- Confirm the image purpose and audience
- Agree the shot priorities
- Verify access and subject arrangements
- Define selection and editing stages
- Record deliverables and usage permissions
Quote guidance
Separate preparation, capture, post-production and any physical products or agreed usage charges. State the selection and revision allowances, and identify raw files, travel and archive retrieval as included or excluded rather than leaving them implicit.
Lead risks
- A small shoot may require extensive post-production
- New usage channels can emerge after delivery
- No decision-maker for image selection can delay completion
